Second-year Student at the Faculty of Music, Okamoto Announces his Receipt of First Prize in the International Bach Competition to the President

Okamoto Seiji, a second-year student from the Faculty of Music, has become the first Japanese person in history to receive first prize in the International Bach Competition (Violin) held this July in Leipzig, Germany. On September 3rd, Okamoto announced his receipt of the prize to President Miyata.

Okamoto remarked, “I am really happy about the result, but I want to keep working hard to further improve my performance.  I felt that language ability was very important to achieve success on the world stage.”

After an informal discussion, Okamoto performed the award winning piece for the President. In addition, Okamoto performed a duet with his instructor, Professor Sawa, Dean of the Faculty of Music. They received an enthusiastic cheer from the Administration Office staff, who packed into the President’s office to catch a glimpse of the world-class performance.
