Geidai Arts in Marunouchi
In November, two Geidai portable shrines were decorated in one of the most famous business districts in Japan in the official district of Marunouchi, which is located between the outer garden of the emperor's palace and Tokyo station. This is one scene of the event that aims to formulate an attractive city through art, "Geidai Arts in Marunouchi." Geidai portable shrines are created by students at the university student festival held in September every year. Seeing the portable shrines suddenly appear in one of the buildings in the city center, passersbys stopped to look. This attracted tremendous interest.
One portable shrine has a spectacular white monkey, which carries coral and has a Japanese fan commemorating the 120th anniversary of the establishment of the university. The other one has a bird in which traditional colors and forms have been sophisticatedly integrated in a modern manner. It has been created in the motif of an originally designed peacock. A panel, which presents students carrying the portable shrines in the parade in the university student festival, was also exhibited, communicating its air of excitement.
In the atrium in the building, brass quintet and Japanese music concerts were held, providing comfortable music for people having lunch. In addition, newly produced drawings and sculptures with the theme of the Chinese zodiac were exhibited in the gallery on the third floor, and this attracted a lot of attention.
