Toride Art Project 2007
Toride Art Project (TAP) is an art project, which has been jointly performed by three parties: the citizens, Toride City in Ibaraki Prefecture, and Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku every year since 1999. Centering on the exhibition of contemporary art publicly offered in Japan and opening of artists' ateliers, the citizens, governmental administration, and university were unified to address various activities. Through these activities, several people in the city and surrounding areas got involved in this project. This has led to the successful development of the new city based on art, and has received high evaluations from a wide variety of fields.
In TAP2007, which was held in November, the M1 units (buildings that can be constructed only if steel frames are deployed according to the purpose of use such as residential and office) were set up inside and outside the city. The M1 unit was created as a residence 30 years ago and was equipped with a function such as a distributed art center, which connected artists' ateliers dotting the region. A new shape of public space was proposed, involving the city, landscape, and people.
