Opening of Ino Artists Village
The Tokyo University of Arts and Toride City in Ibaraki Prefecture renovated a commercial space in the Ino Shopping Center to set up a joint studio they have named Ino Artists Village. The studio is intended to support aspiring young artists by providing them with an affordable shared work space. The University also anticipates that the studio will facilitate exchanges among artists and foster relationships with the neighboring community, spurring a local cultural revitalization.
One of the most formidable challenges young artists face after they leave school lies in figuring out how to manage to continue doing art; without question young artists need a space in which they can create and keep their works. The University encourages its students at Toride Campus, as well as its graduates, to settle down in the city by helping them secure an attractive work space and offering them a place to mingle. As the space begins to attract numerous aspiring and talented artists from other prefectures or otherwise outside the University, its founders also expect to contribute to the city's plan to energize the community. In short, Ino Artists Village, which accommodates over twenty young artists, will serve as a nest in which young talent can grow and prepare to emerge.
