Presentation of the Omnibus Film "A Girl in the Sunset"

Presentation of the Omnibus Film

In January, "A Girl in the Sunset," a collection of short films on a single theme produced by students majoring in Film Production, made its debut in public movie theaters. The students were in charge of the entire production process and all administrative tasks, from fundraising to shooting to post production and advertising. The film is based on four short stories from a book written by renowned novelist Kawabata Yasunari. Each story depicts the nuances of feminine thought from different angles. The students made the stories into a film from a fresh viewpoint, while focusing on a timeless work that continues to ring true among young people today.

The students visited more than ten companies in order to raise funds to produce the film. They then set up a joint production committee with the sponsor company they found, welcoming an employee of the company as their executive producer, who gave them advice both on filmmaking and on business in general. The productive relationship with the company was beyond fund-raising and led to a particularly successful outcome in this industry-university collaboration.
