"BAUHAUS: Experience, Dessau"
From April 26 through July 21, "BAUHAUS: Experience, Dessau" is open for viewing at the University Art Museum.
The Bauhaus School of Arts, originally established in Weimar, Germany in 1919, produced a number of innovative and functional designs in its pursuit of the ideal modern and future living environment in which art and technology are integrated. Although the institution was active for a meager 14 years, it continues as a source of modern design. At the peak of its activities, the Bauhaus moved from Weimar to Dessau and later to Berlin, and its philosophy was embodied more clearly in the Dessau period. Highlighting this period, the exhibition demonstrates the way in which education in art and design must keep up with lifestyle changes, and the role of experimentation and production. The wide-ranging activities of the Bauhaus are introduced through nearly 260 pieces, from students' works that point to the education received from masters such as Kandinsky and Klee to studio productions, theater materials, paintings and photographs.
