Graduates of the Department of Film Production in the Graduate School of Film and New Media participate in a series of projects
Following the formal exhibition of a graduation project entitled "A Bao A Qu", directed by Naoki Kato, in the New Currents section of the 12th Pusan International Film Festival in October 2007, graduates of the Film program continue to draw attention for their activities in an expanding series of projects.
Chihiro Ikeda directed "Tonan Kadobeya Nikai no Onna" from a script of a graduation work by classmate Michiko Oishi. This feature entered general release on Saturday, September 20, as the first commercial theatrical release of a work by a program graduate.
Additionally, Sachiko Tanaka cowrote Kiyoshi Kurosawa's film "Tokyo Sonata", her debut feature-length theatrical release. This film won the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival.
The graduation project "Passion", directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, was nominated for the Zabaltegi Section competition section of the San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain. Known officially as the Donostia-San Sebastian International Film Festival, this historic film festival has been held annually in north Spain's San Sebastian since 1953. Its name was officially sanctioned by the film festival of the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) in 1957 and the film festival is regarded as one of the 12 largest worldwide.
