The player holds the lower end of the tube with one hand and strikes the upper part against the wrist of the other arm. A split running down the center of thetube causes a distinctive buzzing sound. The tone quality may be altered by opening and closing the finger hole for the thumb. Used for both solo and ensemble performances. For ensembles, there is a set of six pipes, and one pipe is held by each performer. Each performer plays a different rhythm which interlocks with the others. Played for entertainment and to cast away evil spirits.
