A hole is made in the middle of each piece of bamboo. Elastic passed through these holes goes around the fingers of the player. An ornamental cord is hung from one end of each piece. Two pieces are held in each hand, and their outward curved surfaces are struck together. The inner, concave surfaces are painted red. Played by dancers in traditional Okinawan dance styles.
