China (south, Fujian Province ? ) = Han
boards: 5, wood, bound with a leather strap; L. 35.5cm

One set is made of five plates of wood. These clappers correspond with those used in the type of narrative of Fujian Province called nan'yin but differences can be seen in the way the plates are shaved and in the type of coarse material of which the cord is made. Presumably these are one variation of thenan'yin clappers. It is also believed that they are used in the simple arts derived fromnan'yin.
