A transverse flute with a mellow sound. The player can produce subtle alterations in tuning by regulating the angle at which the instrument is played as well as by adjusting the position of the fingers over the holes. The word bas means "bamboo". The instrument is widely used both for solo playing and dance accompaniment in folk as well as classical styles.
