Mouth-blown bagpipe, also called "highland pipes". The bag, made of animal hide, is supported under the player's upper arm and the drone pipes are propped over the shoulder. Breath is directed through the blowing pipe into the bag. Pressure is applied to the bag by the arm which rests over it and causes air to move into the chanter and drone pipes. Suitable for outdoor music. Particularly well known for its use as a military band instrument.
