"Shoemaker" by HARADA Naojiro

Harada Naojiro (1863-99) is one of the few Japanese painters who studied oil painting in Europe during the early years of the Meiji era. This portrait of shoemaker was executed in Munich, and his realistic approach makes it a masterpiece of portraiture of the era.
