Thailand
copper alloy; Dm. 8.2cm

One cymbal held facing upward in the left hand is struck with another, held in the right hand. One playing technique, called ching, results when the two cymbals are brought together and immediately released; another, called chāp, is produced when they are struck and stopped against one another. They are used for weak and strong beats, respectively, in music of the pi phat ensemble.
