The central part is raised slighly to form an outward-facing convex surface.The gong is held at the upper rim with the index finger of the left hand, and is struck at the middle with a long rectangular beater held lightly at about half its length in the right hand. After being struck, the pitch of the gong rises. Used in variou traditioanl theater musics as well as in drum and gong ensemble styles.
