The drum is suspended from a drum stand, or the long handle is used as a leg. The player striks the instrument with a sickle-shaped beater which is held in the right hand. Used in any kinds of ceremonial music of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as in masked dance drama performances. There are various sizes and types of rnga, used for different purposes and by different religious sects. This item was acquired in Nepal.
