A tube zither which consists of steel strings stretched along a length of bamboo. It is Madagascar's most popular instrument. The lowest part of the instrument is propped against the front of the body. Alternatively, the lower tip may be placed on the ground, with the lower part supported by the side of the player's body. Sometimes, for small instruments, a support stand may be used. The strings are plucked with the fingers of both hands. There are many types and sizes of valiha.
