A cord around the player's neck and shoulder suspends the instrument. It is supported with the left hand, which, at the same time, controls the pitch by applying pressure to the strings. The strings are sounded with a curved, wooden bow strung with horsehair which the player holds in the right hand. Used for accompanying folk song and dance, and religious songs.
