A thin, irregularly shaped fiddle. The instrument is held by its extremely short neck with the left hand with the peg box up. The player either sits with the instrument placed on the knee or stands. The tension of a loosely strung bow is regulated with the fingers of the right hand. The principle melody is often played in parallel fourths on adjacent strings; at times, two of the strings function as a drone. A folk instrument of the Black Sea coastal regions for accompanying song and dance.
