The instrument is placed vertically on the left knee and bowed. The bow hair passes between the two strings. The strings are pressed down with the nails of the left hand. The bow-stick is sometimes used to strike the surface of the resonator. Used as a solo instrument as well as in accompaniment of narrative performance styles.
