The bell is set either on a special pedestal or directly onto the ground. The player places his lips on the mouth hole and blows. Played in alternation with the rgya-gling in Buddhist ceremonies. If the instrument is played while processing, a second monk carries the front part on his shoulder. Also used to announce the hours of the day.
