The pIayer holds the instrument in his left hand at waist level by the cord used to lace the drumhead. By alternating pressure on the cord, changes of pitch are produced. The fingers of the right hand are used for striking. Rhythms are produced by striking with the fingers in a prescribed order. Used in accompanying narrative style songs as well as by village diviners who exorcise demons and invoke gods in village shrines and templcs.
