An oboe used on Hindu religious occasions, in festivals and processions, as well as for classical music. The five holes on the lower part of the instrument are used for tuning. Immediately before playing they are filled with wax. Often played with the drone instrument ottu and the drum tavil. toform an ensembles known as the Tanjore band.
