The center was newly founded in 1997. Many of its activities take place in the Sogakudo concert hall. In addition to serving as a forum for creativity and experimentation, the center also plays an important role making the work of the university accessible to the general public.
Among the center’s activities are creation of new forms of spatial art using music, light, images and the human body; experimental ensembles combining ethnically diverse musics; creation and research into all aspects of theater, including planning, directing, performance, staging, and lighting design.
